Women's swimming and diving team easily beats Oberlin
The women’s swimming and diving team easily defeated non-league foe Oberlin (Ohio) College, 134-84, tonight at Carr Pool in Oberlin. The Lady Comets (7-3) were first in 10 of 13 events and broke two school records.
The women’s swimming and diving team easily defeated non-league foe Oberlin (Ohio) College, 134-84, tonight at Carr Pool in Oberlin. The Lady Comets (7-3) were first in 10 of 13 events and broke two school records.
Kristin Bloomquist (Holt High School), Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School) and Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) won two events apiece. Bloomquist was first in the one- and three-meter diving competitions with scores of 191.40 and 183.65, respectively. Herzog captured the 1000 freestyle in a school record time of 11:28.74 and the 200 individual medley (2:23.44). Roesch won the 100 and 200 free with times of 56.29 and 2:01.56, respectively.
In addition, Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell High School) was first in the 200 butterfly with a school record time of 2:23.20, and Janet Stam (Holland High School) swam to a first-place finish in the 500 free (5:36.16).
Lingbeek and Stam joined Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) and Jaymee Scott (Holt High School) to win the 400 medley relay (4:21.54). Lingbeek and Roesch teamed with Caitlin Cornell (Corunna High School) and Kristi Miller (Marshall High School) for a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:53.81).
The Comets will remain in Ohio to swim against John Carroll University tomorrow (Jan. 24). Action begins from the University School in Shaker Heights at 1 p.m.
