Women's swimming and diving team loses to John Carroll
The Olivet College women's swimming and diving team fell to non-conference foe John Carroll University, 132-105, this afternoon at the University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
The Olivet College women's swimming and diving team fell to non-conference foe John Carroll University, 132-105, this afternoon at the University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
In the meet, Olivet broke two school records and was first in six events. First-place finishers for the Comets were Kristin Bloomquist (Holt High School) in the three-meter dive (188.75), Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School) in the 500 freestyle (5:31.05), Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell High School) in the 50 free (26.51) and Janet Stam (Holland High School) in the 100 free (school-record time of 56.79).
Stam and Herzog joined Caitlin Cornell (Corunna High School) and Kristi Miller (Marshall High School) to finish first in the 200 free relay (1:46.09). Lingbeek, Cornell, Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) and Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) was first in the 200 medley relay (1:57.77).
Lingbeek broke her own school record in the 200 butterfly (2:21.45). In addition, Roesch was second in the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke.
Olivet ends its dual meet schedule with a 7-4 record. The Comets are idle until the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 19-21 at East Grand Rapids High School. Preliminaries each day begin at 10 a.m., and finals will start at 6 p.m.
