The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Calvin College, 147-94, tonight at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Calvin College, 147-94, tonight at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
Leading the way for the Lady Comets was Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell High School), who captured first-place in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. In the free, she had a time of 25.61 seconds. In the 100 fly, Lingbeek broke her own school record with a NCAA “B” cut time of 59.98 seconds. Kristin Bloomquist (Holt High School) had the only other first-place finish for Olivet in the one-meter dive with a score of 226.00 points.
In addition, Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) was second in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backsstroke. Her times were 2:04.92 and 1:05.04, respectively. Also finishing in second was Janet Stam (Holland High School) in the 100 freestyle at 57.27 seconds, Katie Kilmartin (Wayland High School) in the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.82 and Bloomquist in the three-meter dive (191.40).
The 200 medley relay team of Kilmartin, Lingbeek, Roesch and Stam was second in 1:55.93. Stam joined with Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon High School), Caitlin Cornell (Corunna High School) and Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School) for a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.52.
Third-place finishes for Olivet were by Boyd in the 200 and 500 free, Coxon in the 100 back, Herzog in the 1,000 and 100 free, Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western High School) in the one-meter dive, Stam in the 50 free and Rachel Tunison (Erie Mason High School) in the 100 fly.
Olivet will swim against the Central Michigan University Club team tomorrow, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. Next Saturday, Nov. 13, the Comets will travel to Hillsdale for a double dual against Hillsdale College and Ohio Northern University.
