Olivet started tonight's finals off with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jackie Taylor (Plainwell), Erin Tramper (Jenison), Jami Lingbeek (Plainwell) and Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) finished in 1:52.68.
The Comets had two student-athletes compete in the championship finals. Lingbeek placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a lifetime best time of 59.75 seconds. Tramper touched the wall sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.23.
Lingbeek and Taylor were 1-2, respectively, in the consolation finals of the 100-yard backstroke. Lingbeek clocked-in at 1:01.06, followed by Taylor at 1:02.14. After just missing a qualifying spot into the consolation finals of the 200-yard freestyle, Redder was given a chance to compete when an Alma swimmer could not swim. She took advantage of the chance and finished in ninth-place (2:01.10). Amy Johnson (Gaylord) placed 12th (2:03.22).
In the 400-yard individual medley, Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem) finished in ninth-place (4:54.26). During the prelims, she just missed setting a school record when she timed in at 4:53.60. Competing in her final collegiate meet, Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) scored 373.70 points to finish in sixth-place in the one-meter diving. Sara Griffith (Brighton) placed ninth with 331.35 points.
The 800-yard freestyle relay quartet of Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio), Johnson, Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central) and Redder was fifth (8:17.37).
Saturday's final day of action gets under way with prelims at 10 a.m., and finals at 6 p.m.
