Swimming and diving teams open season with unscored triangular

A pair of Comet freshmen took first-place in the 200-yard freestyle events. For the women, Laura Spray (Lake Forest, Ill.) clocked-in at 2:05.29, and for the men, Michael Conger (Plymouth) touched the wall in 1:50.40.
Other first-place finishes were by sophomore Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington) in the 100-yard freestyle (:50.56), senior Erin Tramper (Jenison) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.06), sophomore Mike Harden (St. Johns) in the 25-yard freestyle (:9.88) and sophomore Rafe Maxwell (Bay City/Western) in the 50-yard butterfly (:24.07). In addition, Olivet took first on both diving boards.
Junior Jackie Taylor (Plainwell) had a pair of runner-up finishes. She placed second in the 50-yard backstroke (:29.64) and 100-yard freestyle (:58.33). Also finishing second were senior Brad Voss (Lansing/Holt) in the 50-yard freestyle (:22.96), sophomore Jami Lingbeek (Plainwell) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.95) and senior Lauren Siedlik (Livonia/Churchill) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.06). Three of four Olivet relays were also second.
Olivet returns to the pool next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-25 when it participates in a 38-event program at Carthage College. Action from the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wisc., gets under way Friday night at 7 p.m., and on Saturday at noon.
