The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team fell to Hope College, 159-106, in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meet opener today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.

Individually, the Comets recorded six first-place finishes. Sophomore Megan Waschak (Battle Creek/Central) swept the diving competition, scoring 249.65 points on the one-meter and 247.05 points on the three-meter.
Sophomore Jessica Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was first in the 500 freestyle (5:31.58). Freshman Crystal Jager (Dorr/Hamilton) touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.62). Sophomore Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) won the 50 freestyle (:25.52). Freshman Erica Schlabach (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) edged Hope's swimmer by .29 seconds in the 100 butterfly, 1:04.55-1:04.84.
Freshman Jana Blodgett (Sturgis) placed second in the 100 freestyle (:59.81). Junior Sara Griffith (Brighton) was the runner-up finisher on the diving boards, 218.45 points on the one-meter and 199.70 points on the three-meter.
Freshman Jennie Plamondon (Flushing) touched second in 200 backstroke (2:24.27). Schlabach was finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:05.14) and 400 individual medley (4:59.74).
The Comets will travel to Hillsdale College Friday, Nov. 13 for non-conference duals against the Chargers and Ohio Northern University. The meet will get started at 6 p.m. The next day, Olivet will host Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.
