The Olivet College women’s tennis team beat Mary Baldwin (Va.) College, 9-0, this afternoon in its final spring break match at the Port Royal Racquet Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Olivet College women's tennis team beat Mary Baldwin (Va.) College, 9-0, this afternoon in its final spring break match at the Port Royal Racquet Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
In singles play, number one player Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville High School), number four player Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) and number six player Mehgan Bildner (Grosse Ile High School) recorded 6-1, 6-0 victories. Number two player Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) and number five player Venera Kurteshi (Taylor Truman High School) won 6-1, 6-2. Number three player Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) captured a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
The #1 doubles tandem of Bailey and Vilums won 8-1. At #2 doubles, Struble and Stephanie Reed (Holt High School) had a 9-7 victory. Danielle Post (Marshall High School) and Stacey Way (Escanaba High School) recorded an 8-2 victory at #3 doubles.
The Lady Comets will resume their schedule on Saturday, March 13, when they host non-league foe Ohio Northern University. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
