Women's tennis team defeats Tri-State, 8-1
The Olivet College women’s tennis team snapped its four-match losing streak this afternoon with an 8-1 victory at future Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) member Tri-State (Ind.) University.
The Olivet College women's tennis team snapped its four-match losing streak this afternoon with an 8-1 victory at future Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) member Tri-State (Ind.) University.
In singles play, number one player Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville High School) won 6-3, 6-1. Number three player Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) captured a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Number four player Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) recorded a 6-0, 6-3 win. Number five player Venera Kurteshi (Taylor Truman High School) won in straight sets and straight games, 6-0, 6-0. Number six player Mehgan Bildner (Grosse Ile High School) won her third straight match, 6-1, 7-5.
In doubles play, the #1 tandem of Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) and Vilums picked-up a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory. The #2 doubles tandem of Struble and Stephanie Reed (Holt High School) and #3 doubles team of Jager and Stacey Way (Escanaba High School) won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-2.
The Lady Comets will resume their MIAA schedule on Saturday, April 3, when they host Alma College. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
