Women's tennis team finishes in seventh-place at 2004 MIAA Championships
The Olivet College women's tennis team finished in seventh-place today at the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. The Lady Comets tallied 22.5 points with Saint Mary's (Ind.) College winning the championship. Olivet finished in sixth-place in the final MIAA standings, which is a combination of regular season and tournament finishes.
Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville High School) was fifth overall at #1 singles. She won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth-place match over Amy Zeilstra from Calvin College. Number two player Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) finished in sixth-place.
Number three player Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School), #4 player Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) and number six player Mehgan Bildner (Grosse Ile High School) were seventh overall. Jager won her seventh-place match by default. Struble captured her seventh-place match by scores of 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3) over Heather Fraser from Adrian. Bildner easily won her seventh-place match 6-2, 6-4 over Bethany Doran from Alma.
The #1 doubles tandem of Bailey and Vilums finished in sixth. The #2 tandem of Struble and Stephanie Reed (Holt High School) and the #3 tandem of Jager and Stacey Way (Escanaba High School) were eighth.
