The women's tennis team won four singles and two doubles matches to defeat Tri-State (Ind.) University, 6-3, this afternoon at the Michigan State University Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
The women's tennis team won four singles and two doubles matches to defeat Tri-State (Ind.) University, 6-3, this afternoon at the Michigan State University Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
In singles play, sophomore Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) lost only one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1, victory at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, sophomore Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) lost the first set, 6-1, but rebounded to win the next two, 6-4 and 6-3. Freshman No. 5 player Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) won easily 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Danielle Post (Marshall) picked-up a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 6.
The Lady Comets' (8-4, 1-1 MIAA) No. 1 and No. 3 doubles tandems had straight set wins. At No. 1, Utberg and Vilums teamed together for a 6-4, 6-2 victory. At No. 3, Post and sophomore Jaime Morrison (Marshall) did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Olivet will next be in action Monday when it travels for a non-conference match at Tiffin (Ohio) University at 3 p.m.
