Women’s tennis team defeats Spring Arbor, 5-4, in home opener
With wins at the first four singles positions, the Olivet College women’s tennis team defeated non-conference foe Spring Arbor University, 5-4 this afternoon in its home opener at the Michigan State University Tennis Facility in East Lansing.

The Comets' (1-1) fifth team point came at No. 1 doubles where the tandem of Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) and Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) won an 8-3 pro-set.
Vilums scored the first Olivet team point in singles play with a straight set, 6-2, 6-2, victory at the No. 1 position. Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) also claimed straight set victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Spring Arbor tied the team score at 4-4 with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The last match to finish was No. 2 singles, which would also decide the final team score. Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) won the first set, 6-3, lost the second set, 6-4, and rallied to take the third set, 6-4.
The Comets are idle until March 3-10 for their annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Olivet will play three matches with its first match Saturday, March 4, against Malone (Ohio) College at 4 p.m.
