Women’s tennis team defeats Bethel (Ind.), 5-4

The Olivet College women's tennis team won one doubles match and four singles matches to beat non-conference foe Bethel College of Indiana, 5-4, today at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.

The Comets (4-7) earned the first point of the match at No. 3 doubles where the team of junior Jaime Morrison (Marshall) and sophomore Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) won an 8-5 pro-set.

In singles, junior Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix), freshman Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and junior Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) each picked-up straight victories. At No. 5, Morrison won in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.

In an exhibition doubles match, the duo of Jager and freshman Kristina Mellinger (Constantine) claimed a 8-3 pro-set win.

Olivet will return to the courts Saturday, April 8, at Tri-State (Ind.) University. Action gets started at 1 p.m.
