Women's tennis team posts a pair of 6-3 victories
The Olivet College women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches with a pair of 6-3 victories today at the Huntington (Ind.) College Tennis Complex. The Comets (8-8) defeated the host Foresters, and then beat University of Saint Francis (Ind.).
The Olivet College women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches with a pair of 6-3 victories today at the Huntington (Ind.) College Tennis Complex. The Comets (8-8) defeated the host Foresters, and then beat University of Saint Francis (Ind.).
Against Huntington, Olivet swept the three doubles and won half of the singles matches for the 6-3 win. The winning doubles tandems were freshman Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and junior Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) at No. 1, juniors Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/ Harper Creek) at No 2, and junior Jaime Morrison (Marshall) and sophomore Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) at No. 3. In singles, Mummaw won in three sets at the No. 2 flight, while Morrison and Struble earned straight set victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 flight, respectively.
Against Saint Francis, the Comets won two doubles and four singles matches in the 6-3 win. Mummaw and Vilums picked-up an easy 8-0 pro-set win at No. 1 doubles. Morrison and Utberg claimed an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles. In singles, Vilums won at No. 1. She won the first set, 6-4, lost the second set, 6-2, and came back to win a super-tiebreak, 10-2. Also winning in singles was Mummaw, Morrison and Struble as each won in straight sets.
Olivet will wrap-up its weekend swing through Indiana with a 1 p.m. match tomorrow at Tri-State (Ind.) University.
