Women's tennis team defeats Tri-State, 6-3
The Olivet College women’s team evened its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) record to 3-3 with a 6-3 win against Tri-State (Ind.) University today at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.

The Comets (8-5, 3-3 MIAA) won the three doubles matches. At No. 1, the duo of seniors Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix)-Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) won the tiebreaker, 7-4, to gain a 9-8 pro-set victory. The No. 2 duo of sophomore Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan)-junior Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) won, 8-3. The third doubles duo of seniors Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix)-Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) rallied to win the final six games for a 9-7 win.
The teams split the six singles matches. At the No. 1 flight, Vilums won 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. At the No. 2 flight, Mummaw also recorded a three-set win, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (4). At the No. 6 flight, Struble picked up a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory. With the wins, Vilums and Struble each improve to 9-4 on the season.
Olivet returns to the court Monday, April 16, when it travels to play Hope College at 3 p.m.
