Women's tennis team opens 2009 season with 7-2 win at Univ. of Northwestern Ohio

The Comets swept the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of senior Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and freshman Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and No. 3 team of sophomore Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) and freshman Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) each won an 8-6 pro-set. The No. 2 team of junior Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and freshman Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) took the 8-5 pro-set victory.
Olivet won 4-of-6 singles flight. Guerra posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2, Gruber won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3, Singer earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4, and Sedgewick had a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6.
The Comets are now idle until their spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. when they play five matches in five days. The first match is Sunday, March 8, against Lynchburg (Pa.) College at 12:30 p.m.
