Mummaw leads women’s tennis team at ITA Central Regional

After losing her first match in three sets (6-1, 2-6, 1-0) to Jennifer Greene of Baldwin-Wallace, Mummaw won four consecutive matches to finish first in the consolation bracket. Her wins were against Emily Thebaut of Oberlin, 8-1; Kelsey Jenkins of Wooster, 9-7; Sara Teitelbaum from Oberlin, 8-3; and Becky Simon from Ohio Wesleyan, 8-5.
Also in singles play, freshman Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) posted a 2-1 record. She had wins against Ashley Stockey of Wooster, 6-2, 7-6 (6); and Deene Ghazzi of Kalamazoo, 6-1, 6-1; before losing to Kat Sundstrom of Wittenberg, 7-5, 6-4. In addition, sophomore Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and freshman Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) saw action in singles and each lost twice.
Guerra and Mummaw had a 2-1 record in doubles play. After receiving a bye in the first round, they made quick work of Kelsey Jenkins and Elissa Lauber of Wooster, winning by an 8-1 score. In the second round, Guerra and Mummaw beat Smitha Gudipati and Rebecca Thomson of Kalamazoo, 8-2. They bowed out of the tournament with an 8-4 loss to Jane Hayden and Ariel Lewis of Oberlin.
