The Olivet College women’s tennis team defeated Calumet College-St. Joseph (Ind.), 9-0, this afternoon inside the South Shore Racquet Club in St. Joseph.

Olivet swept the three doubles matches. The No. 2 duo of senior Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and sophomore Kelsey Singer (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) did not lose any games in an 8-0 pro-set victory. The No. 1 duo of freshman Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and sophomore Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) lost only one game en route to an 8-1 win. The No. 3 duo of junior Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/ Lakeshore) and freshman Kelly Stephens (Troy/Troy Athens) posted an 8-6 win.
The Comets won five-of-six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 1, LaValley won 6-0, 6-2. At No. 2, Guerra lost one game in each set to win 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3, Gruber recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win.
At No. 4, Singer did not lose any games, winning 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5, sophomore Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) lost the first set, bounced back to win the second set 6-1, and won the match with a super-tiebreaker win for the third set. At No. 6, sophomore Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) won 6-0, 6-2.
Olivet (4-1) is now idle until this Saturday, March 27, when it plays University of Saint Francis (Ind.). The match will be played at the Wildwood Racquet Club in Fort Wayne, Ind., and will start at 1 p.m.
