Women’s tennis team hangs on to beat Spring Arbor, 5-4
The women’s tennis team won two doubles flights and split the six singles matches en route to a 5-4 win Spring Arbor University.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team won two doubles flights and split the six singles matches en route to a 5-4 win over non-conference rival Spring Arbor University in its home-opener today at the MSU Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
Olivet got off to a fast start by winning 2-of-3 doubles flights. Down 4-1, the No. 1 duo of Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) rallied to win 9-7. The No. 3 duo of Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) won 8-3.
Freshman Rachael Horn (Niles) and junior Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) scored the first two singles points with identical 6-3, 6-2 wins at the second and fourth flight, respectively. Singer put the Comets' final team point on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the third singles flight.
Olivet returns to action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match against Grand Rapids Community College. The match will be played indoors at the Riverside Athletic Complex.
