Women’s tennis team blanks Grand Rapids CC, 9-0
The women’s tennis team extended its win streak to four matches with a 9-0 win over Grand Rapids Community College.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team extended its win streak to four matches with a 9-0 win over Grand Rapids Community College this afternoon indoors at the Riverview Athletic Club in Grand Rapids.
The Comets lost only four total games en route to sweeping the doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central), and the No. 2 duo of Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and Rachael Horn (Niles) were perfect, winning 8-0 pro-sets. The No. 3 duo of Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) earned an 8-4 win.
In singles, LaValley won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 position. Guerra posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 position. Singer improved to 9-1 this season with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position. Horn did not lose any games in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 position. Sedgewick and Bergeron won 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 5 and 6 positions, respectively.
Olivet resumes its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule Wednesday when it hosts Alma College at the MSU Tennis Facility. The match will start at 4:30 p.m.
