Women’s tennis team snaps winning streak with 5-4 loss to Adrian
The women’s tennis team had its winning streak snapped at five with a tough 5-4 loss against Adrian College in a MIAA match inside the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek. The match was originally scheduled to be played yesterday at Adrian, but the cold weather forced the match indoors tonight.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team had its winning streak snapped at five with a tough 5-4 loss against Adrian College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match inside the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek. The match was originally scheduled to be played yesterday at Adrian, but the cold weather forced the match indoors tonight.
The outcome was not decided until the completion of the final match of the night at No. 6 singles. Olivet junior Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/ Harper Creek) won the first set before the Adrian player rallied to win the second set to force a deciding set, which she also won.
Olivet got off to a fast start by winning 2-of-3 doubles flights. Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) claimed a pro-set victory at the No. 1 position. Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and Rachael Horn (Niles) won at the No. 2 position.
The Comets stretched their lead to 4-0 with wins in the first two singles flights. LaValley and Guerra won at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Scots responded with three straight wins at three, four and five singles to tie the match at 4-4.
Olivet will travel to play Saint Mary's (Ind.) College Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
