Olivet College women’s tennis team and players receive academic awards
The Olivet College women’s tennis team has received the All-Academic Team Award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's tennis team has received the All-Academic Team Award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above.
Led by recently retired Head Coach Mary Anne McMullen, the Comets posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.747. In addition, five members of the women's tennis team have received ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades. To earn this honor, the student-athlete needed to play in one or more varsity match and post a GPA of at least 3.50 for the 2011-12 academic year.
Receiving ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades are recent graduates Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central), junior Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and freshman Megan Post (Marshall).
"It is so great to see these young ladies work so hard in the classroom," said McMullen. "I am very proud of each and every one of them. It has been a pleasure to have coached these wonderful student-athletes. This is what Division lll athletics is all about."
