Women’s tennis team drops two matches in Hilton Head
The Olivet College women’s tennis team dropped two non-conference matches today in Hilton Head, S.C., losing 6-3 to Sweet Briar (Va.) College and 8-1 to St. Mary’s (Md.) College.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Olivet College women's tennis team dropped two non-conference matches today in Hilton Head, S.C., losing 6-3 to Sweet Briar (Va.) College and 8-1 to St. Mary's (Md.) College.
Against Sweet Briar, the No. 1 doubles team of senior Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and junior Jennifer Lightner (Eaton Rapids/Charlotte) won an 8-6 pro-set. LaValley lost only three total games en route to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Lightner rallied to win at No. 2 singles. After winning the first set, 6-4, she lost the second set, 7-5, to force a match tiebreaker, which she won 10-7.
Against St. Mary's, LaValley and Lightner won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
The Comets will wrap-up their trip to the PTR SpringTennis Fest tomorrow with a noon match against Bridgewater (Va.) College.
