Track and field teams open outdoor schedule at Defiance Open
The Olivet College track and field teams opened the outdoor portion of their schedule today by competing at the Defiance (Ohio) College Yellow Jacket Open Meet.
The Olivet College track and field teams opened the outdoor portion of their schedule today by competing at the Defiance (Ohio) College Yellow Jacket Open Meet.
For the women, Sarah Caldwell (Bronson) finished in third-place in the 800-meter run, stopping the clock in 2:29.91. The 400-meter relay team of Caldwell, Brittany Marshall (Canton, Ga./Woodstock), Heather Nicklaw (Springport) and Ellen Schulz (Freeland) placed fourth in 55.82 seconds. Nicklaw was the highest field event performer, as she was second in the high jump at 1.52 meters (4 feet, 11.75 inches).
For the men, James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) was the first one to cross the line in his heat of the 100-meter dash to finish in fifth overall at 11.57 seconds. He was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 22.92 seconds. Tim Esper (New Hudson/Walled Lake North) was one of four athletes to clear the high jump bar at 1.82 meters (5 feet, 11.50 inches). The judges' decision placed him fifth overall.
The Comets return to action Saturday, April 10, at the Adrian College Invitational. Action gets started at 9 a.m.
