Track & field teams finish in sixth and seventh at 2010 MIAA Field Day
The Olivet College women’s and men’s track & field teams finished in sixth- and seventh-place, respectively at the 2010 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day today at Alma College’s Bahlke Field.

Leading the way for the Olivet women in today's second day of action was Sarah Caldwell (Bronson). She placed second in the 400-meter dash (58.44) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.03). Despite the rainy conditions, Caldwell ran a lifetime best time in the 400. Olivia Yarrell (East Lansing/Sexton) was third in the 100-meter dash (13.08). Ellen Schulz (Freeland) finished in seventh-place in the 400-meter dash (1:03.52).
The 4x100-meter relay team of Caldwell, Schulz, Yarrell and Brittany Marshall (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) recorded a fifth-place finish with a season-best time of 51.91 seconds.
The top men's finish was turned in by James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) in the 100-meter dash. After posting the sixth fastest time in the preliminaries yesterday, he improved by two spots in the finals, finishing fourth in 11.45 seconds. Williams also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash (23.51).
The men's 4x100-meter relay quartet of Justin Walters (Clarksville/Lakewood), Pat Clasgens (Livonia/Stevenson), Jesse Holmes (Battle Creek/Central) and Edric Miller (Battle Creek/Central) also finished in fifth-place, stopping the clock at 43.44 seconds.
Walters also shared a seventh-place finish in the high jump with Albion's Lorenzo Reese, as each cleared the bar at 1.81 meters/5'11¼". James Kelly, Jr. (Sterling Heights/John Glenn) placed eighth in the discus with a 38.22m/125'5" toss.
Olivet will close out its season next Wednesday, May 12, when it participates in the Aquinas College Last Chance Meet.
