Volleyball team defeated by Saint Mary’s in three sets
The Olivet College volleyball team was defeated by Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College tonight in three sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-15) tonight at the Angela Athletic Facility in Notre Dame, Ind.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Olivet College volleyball team was defeated by Saint Mary's (Ind.) College tonight in three sets tonight at the Angela Athletic Facility in Notre Dame, Ind. The Belles won by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-15.
Except for a brief 1-0 Olivet lead, Saint Mary's led the entire first set. The start of the second set was back and forth with eight tied scores. After a 10-10 tie, the Belles scored two straight points to take the lead for good. Four times, the Comets would close to within one point but each time Saint Mary's scored the next point. The third set was like the first, where Olivet led 1-0 and then the Belles put the next two points to take a lead that it did not relinquish.
For the Comets, freshman Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) led the team with seven kills, while junior Kristen Sharpley (Marshall) had six. Senior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and freshman Myranda Reyna (Marshall) finished with five kills apiece.
Senior Lacee Boone (Otsego) and freshman Taylor Pringle (Haslett) each dished out 11 set assists. Freshman Mackenzie Inman (Union City) topped the defense with six digs.
Olivet is now off until next Tuesday, Oct. 18, when it hosts Kalamazoo College at 7 p.m. The match is also the annual "Dig for a Cure" match.
