OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to Trine (Ind.) University in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match this evening at the Upton Center Gymnasium.

- After the Comets led 2-1 in the first set, the Thunder put five straight points on the scoreboard for a 6-2 lead. Olivet fought back to level the score three times. After the last one at 13-13, Trine used a 5-0 run to go up 18-13. The Thunder stretched its lead to six points at 24-18. The Comets saved four set points to make the score 24-22 before an Olivet service error handed the set to Trine.
- The Thunder built a 7-2 advantage in the second set. The Comets answered with a 10-1 run to take a 12-8 lead. Olivet's lead swelled to eight points, 22-14. The Comets led 24-18 before Trine put five consecutive points on the scoreboard to trail by a point, 24-23. A Thunder attack error provided set point to Olivet.
- In the third set, Trine went ahead by three points, 12-9, for the largest lead for either team. Three Thunder attack errors and a kill for the Comets made the score 13-12. The teams traded points, resulting in five tied scores. Following the last one at 17-17, Olivet used a mini 3-0 run to go up 20-17 and forced Trine to call a timeout. Two Comet attack errors made the score 20-19. Olivet pushed its lead back to two points twice. Following the last time at 23-21, the Thunder had three straight points to get to set point at 24-23. A Comet kill tied the set at 24-24 before an Olivet attack error and Trine kill ended the set.
- In the fourth set, the Thunder turned a 2-0 deficit into a 6-2 lead. The Comets battled back to even the score at 9-9. Five consecutive Trine points – four kills and a service ace – put it ahead 14-9. Olivet was not able to recover from the deficit.
- Despite the loss, the Comets served 15 aces. Junior Jill Arends led the way with five aces, followed by freshman Madison Johnson with four.
- In the front row, sophomore Olivia DuFore and junior Ellie Louiselle each recorded 10 kills.
- Junior Kennedy Blackburn dished out a team-best 18 set assists.
- Senior Drue Mullin led all players with 21 digs.
- Francesca Queary slammed down a match-best 12 kills.
- Jacqueline Baughman registered 39 set assists.
- Kacie VanKallar posted a team-best 19 digs.
- Olivet's 15 service aces ties for the fifth-most in a single-match in school history since the 2003 season.
- The Comets travel to play Kalamazoo College next Wednesday, October 13. First serve is at 6:30 p.m.
