Olivet loses four-set home match to Albion

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to Michigan Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albon College tonight at the Cutler Event Center. After dropping the first set, the Britons won the next three sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the Britons built a four-point lead, 14-10. After an exchange of points, Albion lead 15-12. Senior Abi Nunez slammed down a kill and then served four straight aces to put Olivet ahead 17-15. The Britons scored the next two points to level the score before two Comet points put them ahead 19-17. Olivet did not give up the lead for the remainder of the set, winning it 25-23.
- In the second set, Albion used a 6-0 run to flip a 5-2 deficit into an 8-5 lead. The Comets fought back to tie the score at 10-10. The Britons then took a two-point lead on three occasions. After the third time at 17-15, Olivet went on a 5-2 scoring spurt to gain a 20-19 lead. Albion responded three straight points to take the lead back 22-20. The Comets closed the gap to a single point twice (22-21, 23-22) but the Britons scored the final two points to win the set, 25-22.
- Albion began the third set with a 19-5 lead. Olivet scored 10 straight points to trim its deficit down to four points, 19-15. The Britons ended the set by scoring six of the final seven points for a 25-16 win.
- The fourth set was like the third, with the Britons jumping out to an early lead at 8-2. Albion held onto the advantage for the entire set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Nunez and senior Hayleah McFadden each pounded down 13 kills.
- Sophomore Julia Hall tallied seven kills and six blocks (three solo and three assisted).
- Nunez had five of the 10 Olivet service aces.
- Senior Teagan Giannunzio registered 36 set assists.
- Junior Jaydn Cary led all players with 22 digs.
- Three other players reached double figures in digs – Nunez (15), freshman Ashlynn Giannunzio (11) and senior Maddie Reynolds (10).
