UOlivet falls in five-set match at Albion

ALBION, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College in five sets this evening at Kresge Gymnasium. After losing the first set, the Comets won the next two sets. The Britons rallied to win the next two sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening set, Olivet scored the first point on a double block at the net. The Britons responded with three straight points before two Comet points evened the score at 3-3. Two Olivet attack errors put Albion ahead, 5-3. Olivet scored the next point but did get any closer the remainder of the set.
- The Britons built a three-point lead, 5-2, to start the second set. Albion held an advantage until the Comets used a 5-1 run to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 9-7 lead. Olivet extended its lead to five points, 18-13. The Britons fought back to close the gap to a single point, 19-18, but the Comets ended the set on a 6-2 run.
- The Comets raced out to a 5-1 lead in the third set. Olivet maintained at least a four-point lead before the Britons came all the way back to take their first lead at 11-10. The Comets fought back to tie the set multiple times. Albion seized a two-point lead, 22-20. Olivet used a kill and three Briton attack errors to go up 23-22. A Comet attack error tied the score. A kill by senior Violet Porter, followed by an overpass kill by sophomore Jordyn Smith handed the set to Olivet.
- In the fourth set, Albion jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back to force the deciding set.
- The Britons put the first three points on the scoreboard in the fifth set. Two Comet kills made the score 3-2 but Olivet did not get any closer for the rest of the set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Payton Smith led Olivet with 13 kills.
- Porter finished with 10 kills and .364 attack percentage.
- Freshman Hailey Day and junior Julia Hall tallied eight and seven kills, respectively.
- Junior Jordyn Smith recorded 36 assists and 11 digs.
- Senior Jaydn Cary collected 23 digs, followed by sophomore Ashlynn Giannunzio with 15.

- Olivet takes a break from MIAA play next Tuesday, October 14, when it travels to play Grace Christian University. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
