JACKSON, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's cross country team finished in fifth-place at its season-opening meet today at the Jackson Community College Invitational. The Comets finished in fifth-place but were only four points behind fourth-place Mott Community College.
Leading the way for Olivet was junior Brittany Marshall (Canton, Ga./ Woodstock), as she placed 20th and covered the 5K course in 23:03. Freshman Anna Krausz (Lyons/Portland) was next for the Comets in 23rd-place at 23:23, followed by freshman Liz Stewart (Vermontville/Maple Valley), 26:05; and senior Kayla Green (Mason), 26:41. The rest of Olivet's runners were freshman Chastity Williams (Vandalia/Ross Beatty), 27:21; junior Courtney Osborn (Dorr/Wayland Union), 27:29; and freshman Sondra Riske (Springport), 33:01.
"For the first race of the year, the course was very challenging," said Head Coach Karen Lutzke. "We are looking for continued improvement throughout the season. This was also the first-ever cross country race for Liz and Chastity."
The Comets return to action Saturday, Sept. 25, when they host the 2010 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree at the Olivet Golf Club.
