Men’s and women’s cross country teams place sixth and ninth at MIAA Championships
The Olivet College cross country teams ran today at the 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, which was hosted by Hope College and held at the West Ottawa Golf Course in Holland. The men’s team placed sixth, while the women finished in ninth-place.
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College cross country teams ran today at the 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, which was hosted by Hope College and held at the West Ottawa Golf Course in Holland. The men's team placed sixth, while the women finished in ninth-place.
The men's team totaled 180 points, which was five points less than seventh-place Alma College and 23 less than eighth-place Kalamazoo College. Calvin College captured the team championship with 28 points.
Sophomore Greg Lutzke (Williamston) was the top finisher, as he placed 29th of 115 runners. He covered the 8K course in 27:07. Junior Jalen Weaver (Mendon) was 34th with a time of 27:40, and junior Andrew Benkovsky (Eaton Rapids) finished one spot behind him in 35th with a time of 27:52. Freshman Blake Wilson (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and sophomore Tyler Britten (Mendon) finished in 28:08 and 28:24, respectively.
The women's team had 246 points. Calvin had four of the top five finishers and eighth-place finisher to win the team title with 21 points.
Sophomore Brittany Hayes (Battle Creek/Lakeview) paced the women with a time of 25:40. Freshman Jacklyn Yates (Fowlerville/Hesperia) crossed the finish line in 26:08. SeniorRachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) was next in 26:20, followed by senior Anna Krausz (Lyons/Portland) at 26:44.
The Comets are off until Nov. 16 when they will compete at the 2013 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Meet, which is being hosted by Calvin.
