Comets of the Week - November 11, 2024
The Female Comet of the Week is senior Lily Connelly, of Grant Twp., and graduate of Crosswell-Lexington High School. Connelly scored 26 points, including a half-court shot at the buzzer, to lead the women’s basketball to a thrilling 79-78 win over Bluffton (Ohio) University in its season-opener. She made 9-of-12 baskets and 7-of-10 free throws for her 26 points. Connelly also had a game-best six assists and four steals.
The Male Co-Comet of the Week is senior Kody Krupp, of Chesaning, and graduate of New Lothrop High School. Krupp had a 4-0 record to win the 197-pound title at the Trine Invitational. He pinned Jose Bethel from Indiana Tech at 1:40, won a 16-0 technical fall over Austin George from Southwestern Michigan College, pinned regionally-ranked Aidan Belgiorno from Heidelberg (Ohio) University at 5:15 and won 9-2 over teammate Jack Ward. For the day, Krupp scored 31 total points and allowed only two points on an escape and penalty.
The Male Co-Comet of the Week is sophomore Conner Schipper, of Holland, and graduate of Zeeland East High School. Schipper averaged 15.5 points and seven rebounds in helping the men’s basketball team split two games at the Loras (Iowa) College Tip-Off Tournament. In a 71-55 win over Simpson (Iowa) College, he had nine points and five rebounds. Schipper followed that with 22 points and five rebounds in an 84-76 loss to the host Duhawks. For the two games, he made 13-of-23 baskets (56.5 percent), including 3-of-9 from behind the arc, and 2-of-3 free throws for his 31 points, and recorded four assists and three blocks.
