HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Six Olivet College student-athletes have been selected to the 2023 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Track & Field Teams. The All-MIAA team is comprised of the individual event winners and members of the winning relays at the MIAA Championship.
Olivet's honoree on the All-MIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Team is senior Gabby Jolliff. The Comets' five honorees on the All-MIAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Team are senior Jordon Brown, freshman Noah Feudi, senior Hayden Germain, freshman Jonathan Holloway and senior Chase Mendham.
Jolliff was first in the pole vault, as she cleared the bar at 10 feet, 10 inches to tie the MIAA Indoor Championship record. Current Olivet assistant coach Michaela Kaliniak also holds the record. Jolliff is earning All-MIAA Indoors for the first time in her career. She won the pole vault at the 2022 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
"Gabby has made big improvements over the last year in the pole vault because of all the hard work she has put in at practice and competitions," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "Gabby is a leader on and off the runway. Each meet this year she made big steps in her development and we are looking forward to seeing what else she can do the rest of the year. It is rewarding as her head coach to see her development and improvement over the past few years working with our pole vault coach Miranda Smith."
Brown won the 200- and 400-meter dashes to earn the spot on the All-MIAA Indoor Team for the second time in his career. He broke the school record in the 200 with a time of 22.07 seconds, while completing the 400 in 49.33 seconds. Brown also placed third in the long jump (21 feet, 2 inches) and ran the anchor leg of the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay.
"Jordon has matured this year as an athlete and a competitor and has run personal best times in every race distance this indoor season," stated Lutzke. "At the MIAA meet, Jordon executed all his races following the race plans that Coach Gatson and Jordon developed. Through Jordon's career, he has continued to develop as a leader on the team. He has always been passionate about competing and that carries over to others daily. If he is not in a race, he is cheering and supporting his teammates. I have been coaching a long time and have seen very few athletes with the ability to raise up their teammates with his passion for track and field."
Feudi, Germain, Holloway and Mendham won the distance medley relay (DMR) with a time of 10:30.40. The relay is comprised of 1,200-meter leg, 400-meter leg, 800-meter leg and 1,600-meter leg in that order for a total distance of 4,000-meters (20 laps around the 200-meter track). Olivet's order for the race was Mendham, Holloway, Feudi and Germain.
"The DMR was another exciting race this year as we were racing to defend last year's DMR first-place performance," said Lutzke. "Each of the four men on the relay have put in a lot of work this season and it is rewarding for them to earn All-MIAA honors. Chase and Hayden provided the leadership for Jonathan and Noah who were running in their first MIAA Track and Field Championship meet."
