ADRIAN, Mich. – Sophomore Lee Hardy made a three-pointer at the buzzer to help The University of Olivet men's basketball team beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Adrian College, 74-73, tonight inside the Merillat Sports & Fitness Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Comets led by five points, 18-13, at the 12:28 mark of the first half. The Bulldogs answered with a 6-1 run to tie the game. Over the next six minutes, Olivet outscored Adrian, 20-10, to take its largest lead of the half, 39-29. The Bulldogs made the next two baskets to make the score 39-33. Sophomore Nathan Richardson was fouled on a three-point attempt with 0.4 seconds remaining in the first half. He made each of the three free throws to put the Comets ahead 42-33 at the intermission.
  • Adrian started the second half with a 16-4 run for a 49-46 lead. Both teams made back-to-back three-pointers and two-point baskets to keep the score at a three-point differential. The Bulldogs were eventually able to get ahead by five points, 69-64, at the 4:34 mark. Adrian led by four points, 73-69, with 3:19 left. Olivet closed the gap to two points when Richardson made a jump shot at 2:14. After a series of missed shots by both teams, the Comets fouled an Adrian player with 13 seconds remaining. The player missed the front end of one-and-one attempt. Hardy grabbed the rebound. Richardson missed a floater in the lane, but Richardson grabbed the loose ball and passed it to Hardy who sank the winning three-pointer.

FOR THE COMETS

  • Richardson led all players with 27 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • Junior Evan Honnen and sophomore Conner Schipper each scored 14 points. The 14 points is a career high for Honnen.
  • Hardy added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
