Men’s swimming and diving team opens MIAA schedule with 167.5-119.5 loss to Kalamazoo
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team fell to Kalamazoo College, 167.5-119.5 in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening dual meet this afternoon at the Upton Center Pool in Oliver.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming and diving team fell to Kalamazoo College, 167.5-119.5 in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening dual meet this afternoon at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
The Comets took first-place in five events. Sophomore Eric Dawdy (Holt) swept the back stroke events, winning the 100 in 56.82 and 200 in 2:05.10. Junior Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela / San Vicente de Paul) won the 200 IM in 2:04.34, while sophomore Taylor Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) took first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.71. Sophomore Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) earned 282.20 points on the three-meter diving board to finish in first-place.
Olivet had eight runner-up finishes. Senior Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) placed second in the sprint freestyle events, stopping the clock at 22.55 seconds in the 50 and 50.59 seconds in the 100. Aoun was second in both butterfly events, with times of 54.42 in the 100 and 2:01.66 in the 200.
Junior Phil Bielak (Brownstown/Woodhaven) finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.01) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.43). Howard was the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.82). Wilkins collected 216.40 points to place second on the one-meter diving board.
The Comets finished second in both relays. The 200 medley relay team of Dawdy, senior Adam Rhein (Leonard/Romeo), Aoun and Aldrich clocked-in at 1:40.47. The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Dawdy, Bielak, junior Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton) and Aldrich touched the pad in 1:29.76.
The Comets will compete at Hope College next Saturday, Nov. 2, starting at 1 p.m.
