Women's basketball team beats Adrian, 53-51

In the first half, the Bulldogs led by as many as six points, 18-12, at the 7:40 mark. The Comets scored eight straight points to take a 20-18 lead. After a three-pointer put Adrian back up by one point, Olivet used a 6-0 run to take a five-point lead, 26-21, with three minutes left before halftime. The Bulldogs ended the half with an 8-1 scoring spurt to take a 29-27 lead at the break.
In the second half, Adrian was able to build its lead to seven points, 44-37, with eight minutes left in regulation. Over the next five minutes, the Comets out-scored the Bulldogs, 11-2, to take their first lead of the half, 48-46. Following a 48-48 tie, Brackenwagen made a free throw to complete a three-point play and give Olivet a 51-48 lead. Adrian made three free throws to tie the game at 51-51 with 19 seconds left. A pair of timeouts preceded Brackenwagen's game-winning basket.
Brackenwagen was the only Comet in double figures, as she scored 15 points. Juniors Emily Brown (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and Vallen VanZyll (Lowell) each scored eight points. Sophomore Gabrielle Federau (Okemos) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Anita Stamps scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Bulldogs. Kim Olech had a team-leading 10 rebounds.
Olivet will take a break from MIAA play when it travels to play Rochester College Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
