Women’s golf team finishes in first-place at MIAA Playoff #1
The Olivet College women’s golf team finished in first-place in the first of three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) playoff rounds today at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
The Olivet College women's golf team finished in first-place in the first of three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) playoff rounds today at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. The MIAA's automatic qualifier to the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championships May 8-11 will be given to the team with the lowest cumulative total over these three playoff rounds. The second round will be played tomorrow at The Medalist (9 a.m. shotgun start) and the third round will hosted by Tri-State (Ind.) University next Tuesday, April 24, at the Zollner Golf Course.
In today's first round, the Comets posted a 338 team score. Albion and Hope colleges tied for second-place at 350, followed by Tri-State, 366; Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, 374; and Kalamazoo College, 390. Albion's Elizabeth Kreger earned medaist honors with an 81.
Only four strokes separated Olivet's five golfers and all placed in the top 10 of the player standings. Leading the way was freshman Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) who was second with an 83, including a tournament-low 39 on the back nine. Senior Kristy Latimer (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and sophomore Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) each had an 84 to share third-place. Sophomore Trisha McKim (DeWitt) and senior Stephanie Nicolai (Shelbyville/Wayland Union) tied for 10th-place with rounds of 87.
Freshman Katie Misko (Alma) played as an individual scorer, returning to the clubhouse with an 89. Senior Amanda London (Marshall) also competed as an individual scorer and had a 112.
