Brew and Vanderhyde advance to the semifinal at the 2008 NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships
Olivet College juniors Jason Brew (Sparta) and Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta) have advanced to Saturday morning's semifinals at the 2008 NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Olivet College juniors Jason Brew (Sparta) and Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta) have advanced to Saturday morning's semifinals at the 2008 NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
At 157 pounds, Brew posted an 8-3 win over Wisc.-LaCrosse's Jay Milz in the first round and a 6-4 win over Cornell's Patrick McCauley in the quarterfinals. As the No. 2 seed, he will face No. 6 seed and New York University's Takafumi Hashimoto in the semifinals.
At 174 pounds, Vanderhyde pinned Hunter's Andre DeCristo in 37 seconds in a preliminary match. In the first round, he beat Dubuque's Evan Brown, 7-5, and in the quarterfinals, he knocked-off King's Michael Reilly, 14-7. As the No. 3 seed, Vanderhyde will face No. 7 seed and Coe's Tyler Jentz.
The semifinals will get under way Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT and are being streamed live on the Internet at www.ncaa.com.
In addition, senior 165-pounder Daron Cruickshank (Inkster/John Glenn) bowed out of the tournament with two losses.
