Wrestling team finishes third at Mid-States Invitational

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team hosted the 2023 Mid-States Invitational inside the Cutler Event Center. The Comets finished third of 10 schools with 110 points.

• The field was comprised of 10 NCAA Division III schools from the Midwest.
• Thirteen of the 15 Olivet wrestlers entered in the tournament placed in the top eight of their weight class.
• Of the 13 top-eight finishers, three took second and one was third.
• Ohio Northern University edged Wabash (Ind.) College for first-place by nine points, 164 to 155.
• Three wrestlers likely wrestled in their final collegiate matches.
  • Jerry Hall finished second in the 157-pound bracket. He won two matches by decision (5-0 and 4-1) after pinning his first-round opponent.
  • Also, at 157 pounds, Jarrett Thorne was sixth. His lone win was a pin late in the second period.
  • Zach Potter placed third at 165 pounds. He won his first match, lost in the semifinals, received a medical forfeit against a teammate in the consolation bracket. Potter walked off the mat for the final time with a first-period pin in the third-place match.

• The Comets participate in the 2023 NCAA Division III Central Regional Saturday and Sunday, February 25-26, at Case Western Reserve (Ohio) University. The top three finishers in the 10 weight classes will advance to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships Friday and Saturday, March 10-11, at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia.
