UOlivet splits two matches at 2026 NWCA National Dual Meet Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The University of Olivet wrestling team split two matches this morning at the 2026 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships inside the UNI Dome. The Comets rallied to beat University of Dubuque (Iowa), 22-19, before losing 42-6 to Concordia University-Moorhead (Minn.).
VS. DUBUQUE
- The Spartans won the 125-pound match by forfeit.
- The Comets grabbed the lead back 7-6 after freshman Trenden Bashore won an 11-3 major decision at 133 pounds and sophomore Desmond King won a 7-3 decision at 141 pounds.
- Dubuque responded with four straight wins to take a 19-7 lead.
- Junior Kyan Larson started Olivet's rally with a 10-7 victory at 174 pounds.
- Sophomore Jack Ward eked out a 5-3 win at 184 pounds. The difference in the match was a reversal to begin the second period.
- At 197 pounds, senior Gideon Loewen tied the score at 19-19 when he pinned his opponent with 31 seconds left in the first period.
- Junior Mason Knight gave the win to Olivet with an 8-3 win at 285 pounds.
VS. CONCORDIA-MOORHEAD
- The Cobbers earned wins in 8-of-10 bouts.
- At 165 pounds, junior Juwan Vines won a 9-6 decision. He scored all his points in the third period.
- At 285 pounds, junior Shane Edwards claimed a 4-1 overtime decision. Both wrestlers scored an escape when they were down to start the second or third period. Edwards won the match with a takedown 46 seconds into the extra period.
UP NEXT
- Olivet begins its pursuit of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship next Thursday, January 15, when it wrestles at Trine (Ind.) University. The match gets started at 7 p.m. from Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.
