Men’s and women’s swimming/diving teams beat Alma
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Alma College tonight in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meet at the Upton Center pool in Olivet. The men’s team was first in 11-of-13 events and beat the Scots, 157-56. The women’s team took first-place in all 13 events en route to a 174-60 win.

The men's team was first in 11-of-13 events and beat the Scots, 157-56. The women's team took first-place in all 13 events en route to a 174-60 win.
On the men's side, freshmen Igor Rasula (Belgrade, Serbia) and Ryan Key (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep) were double winners. Rasula won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events with times of 5:00.83 and 10:36.34, respectively. Key clocked-in with first-place times of 22.70 and 50.86 seconds in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.
The other winners were junior Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico), 200-yard individual medley (2:08.37); freshman Yury Bylina (Minsk, Belarus, 200-yard freestyle (1:46.62); junior Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland), 200-yard butterfly (2:06.72); freshman Brad Voss (Lansing/Holt), 200-yard backstroke (2:10.33); and junior Andy Weiss (Fremont), three-meter dive (236.25). Bylina's time broke the pool record.
The Comets' 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays also claimed first-place honors. Swimming on the medley relay were Key, Ben Guins (Lansing/Eastern), Jason Wheatley (Portage/Central) and Andy Williams (Fenton). Their time was 3:55.21. The freestyle relay was Bylina, Guins, Voss and Brian Johnson (Lansing/Eastern) with a time of 3:24.25.
On the women's side, junior Kristin Bloomquist (Holt) was the only double winner. She took first on the one- and three-meter diving boards with scores of 220.15 and 210.85, respectively.
The remaining first-place finishers were junior Christina Coxon (Mason), 200-yard backstroke (2:29.28); freshman Lisa Egelkraut (Battle Creek/Central), 200-yard freestyle (2:08.85); junior Laura Herzog (St. Joseph), 200-yard individual medley (2:22.97); freshman Amy Johnson (Gaylord), 50-yard freestyle (25.77); sophomore Katie Kilmartin (Wayland), 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.15); junior Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion), 100-yard freestyle (:56.68); freshman Erin Tramper (Jenison), 500-yard freestyle (5:36.99); sophomore Rachel Tunison (Erie/Mason), 200-yard butterfly (2:25.95); and junior Ashley Zaborski (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), 1,000-yard freestyle (11:35.52). Kilmartin set a pool record.
In addition, both relays were first. The 400-yard medley relay was Herzog, Tramper, Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem) and Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) with a time of 4:29.05. Swimming on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay was Redder, Roesch, Carrie Schroeder (Marshall) and Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central). Their time was a pool record at 3:54.55.
The Comets are back in the pool tomorrow when they host Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.
