The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team fell to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Calvin College, 147-95, this evening in Grand Rapids.
The Olivet College women's swimming and diving team fell to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Calvin College, 147-95, this evening in Grand Rapids.
The Comets took first-place in four events, second in seven events and third in five events. Leading the way was junior Laura Herzog (St. Joseph). She won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:30.44), swam a leg of the second-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:46.00) and was third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.03).
First-place finishes were also by freshman Amy Johnson (Gaylord), 100-yard freestyle (:55.64); sophomore Katie Kilmartin (Wayland), 200-yard breastroke (2:35.43); and senior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell), 200-yard backstroke (2:15.85).
The 400-yard freestyle team was Herzog, Johnson, Lingbeek and freshman Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison). Individually, Johnson swam to a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.62) and Redder was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.25).
Junior Kristin Bloomquist (Holt) took second on both the one- and three-meter diving boards. The other two runner-up finishes were freshman Erin Tramper (Jenison), 200-yard individual medley (2:24.80); and sophomore Rachel Tunison (Erie/Mason), 200-yard butterfly (2:25.32).
Tramper claimed third-place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.69). Also finishing in third was sophomore Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western), one-meter diving; and freshman Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem), 200-yard butterfly (2:28.73).
Tramper, Tunison, junior Christina Coxon (Mason) and freshman Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central) swam to third-place in the 400-yard medley relay (4:21.08).
Olivet is back in action Saturday, Nov. 12, when it travels to Hillsdale for a double dual meet with Hillsdale College and Ohio Northern University.
