Women’s swimming and diving team sweeps double dual with Hillsdale and Ohio Northern
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team swept a double dual with non-conference foes Hillsdale College and Ohio Northern University today in Hillsdale. The Comets beat the host Chargers, 62-51, and routed Ohio Northern, 95-18.

Junior Kristin Bloomquist (Holt) took first-place honors on both the one- and three-meter diving boards with scores of 224.45 and 221.35, respectively. Also taking first-place was junior Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) and freshman Amy Johnson (Gaylord). Herzog captured first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.79), while Johnson was first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.52). The duo joined with freshmen Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) and Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/K-Central) for a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:45.27).
Olivet also grabbed second-place in nine events, including the 400-yard medley relay. Senior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) was second in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.77) and 200-yard butterfly (2:20.79). Sophomore Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) placed second in the two diving competitions, 172.70 on the one-meter and 182.35 on the three-meter. Freshman Erin Tramper (Jenison) shattered the school-record in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her time was 2:31.24, and the old record was 2:33.87.
The other second-place finishes were sophomore Sarah Boyd (Napoleon), 1000-yard freestyle (11:31.20); Herzog, 200-yard freestyle (2:04.22); and junior Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion), 200-yard backstroke (2:19.04). The 400-yard medley relay consisted of Johnson, Lingbeek, Roesch and Tramper.
In addition, the Comets recorded five third-place finishes. They included Boyd, 500-yard freestyle (5:39.70); sophomore Katie Kilmartin (Wayland), 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.12); Redder, 50-yard freestyle (:25.79) and 100-yard freestyle (:56.12); and Roesch, 200-yard backstroke (2:19.04).
Olivet is back in action Saturday, Nov. 19, when it travels to Albion College for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet at 1 p.m.
