Swimming and diving teams swept at Hope
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Hope College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meets today inside the Dow Center in Holland.
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Hope College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meets today inside the Dow Center in Holland. The men lost 132-90, while the women fell, 122-72.
For the men, junior Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela / San Vicente de Paul) won the 200 individual medley (2:03.65) and 200 butterfly (2:05.65). Senior Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) took first-place in the 50 freestyle (:22.30) and was second in the 100 freestyle (:50.03).
Sophomore Eric Dawdy (Holt) touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke (2:01.72). Sophomore Taylor Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) placed second in the 200 IM (2:05.40) and 200 breaststroke (2:19.52).
For the women, junior Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) swept the sprint freestyle events. She won the 50 by with a time of 25.28 seconds and the 100 by more than one second with a time of 55.72. Sophomore Kira Gates (Grosse Ile) used a 31.53 split in the freestyle leg of the 200 IM for a come-from-behind win (2:20.11). She also finished in second-place in the 200 butterfly (2:24.72).
The Comets will take a break from its MIAA schedule for a double dual meet at Hillsdale College, starting at 10:30 a.m. The women will compete against Hillsdale and Ohio Northern University, while the men will compete against only Ohio Northern.
