Track and field teams participate in Don & Riley Zimmer Invitational
The Olivet College track and field teams made the short trip down I-69 and to Trine (Ind.) University to participate in the Don & Riley Zimmer Invitational. The meet featured student-athletes from NCAA Division III and NAIA schools.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College track and field teams made the short trip down I-69 and to Trine (Ind.) University to participate in the Don & Riley Zimmer Invitational. The meet featured student-athletes from NCAA Division III and NAIA schools.
For the men, junior Connor Bauserman finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:30.30. In the same event, junior Blake Wilson was fifth (personal-best, 4:33.33) and sophomore Bruce Baker was sixth (personal-best, 4:34.47).
Senior Nicholas Roberge-Ferris placed fifth of 21 runners in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:05.20. Senior Travon Tatum won his preliminary heat of the 60-meter dash at 7.31 seconds, and improved his time in the finals by two-hundredths of a second, season-best 7.29 seconds, to place sixth.
In the field events, senior Mitchell Smith placed third in the weight throw with a season-best 47 feet, 7 inch toss. Freshman Nicholas Yeck had the sixth-best performance in the triple jump (37 feet, 3-3/4 inches) and seventh-best performance in the long jump (20 feet, 5-1/4 inches).
For the women, junior Allyson Schultz was the second runner to cross the finish line in the mile run with a time 5:37.37. She also placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.01.
Freshman Kimberly Barber finished in fourth-place in the long jump (16 feet, 8-3/4 inches) and seventh in the triple jump (28 feet, 4-1/4 inches).
The Comets are off until Friday, Feb. 12 when they compete at the Defiance (Ohio) College Invitational.
