Track and field teams win two events and break three school records at Defiance Open
The Olivet College indoor track and field teams won two individual events and broke the school record in three other events this evening at the Defiance (Ohio) College Open at the George M. Smart Center in Defiance, Ohio.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College indoor track and field teams won two individual events and broke the school record in three other events this evening at the Defiance (Ohio) College Open at the George M. Smart Center in Defiance, Ohio.
For the women, freshman Kimberly Barber broke the school record in the prelims of the 60-meter run at 8.35 seconds. She improved her time by eighth-hundredths in the finals to lower the school record and finish in seventh-place. Also finishing in top five was sophomore Isabelle Leon who placed fourth of 21 runners in the mile run with a time of 5:41.81.
In the field events, Barber also set a school record in the triple jump with a 33 feet, 9-1/4 inch leap to finish in third-place.
For the men, sophomore Bruce Baker took first-place of 31 runners in the mile run with a time of 4:30.13. Junior Connor Bauserman had the fastest time in the 800-meter run at 1:57.71. The time was almost two seconds faster than the runner-up finisher. In the same event, senior Tyler Britten placed sixth with a time of 2:02.40.
In the field events, sophomore Mitchell Smith broke the school record in the weight throw with a 49 feet, 5 inch throw. The mark placed him third in a field of 27 athletes. Freshman Nicholas Yeck was fourth in the long jump with a 19 feet, 3-1/4 inch leap. Senior Travon Tatum was right behind him in fifth-place at 19 feet, 1-1/2 inches.
The Comets return to the track next Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Hillsdale Invitational.
