Volleyball team wins five-set thriller at Rochester
The Olivet College volleyball team won a thrilling five-set match against Rochester College tonight at Oakland Christian High School in Auburn Hills. The Warriors, ranked No. 2 in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association poll, won the first set, 25-15. The Comets bounced back to win the second and third sets, 25-21 and 25-16, respectively. Rochester forced a deciding-set with a 25-20 win in the fourth set. Olivet won the match by winning the fifth set, 15-12.

Freshmen Sam Gibson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph) topped the Comets with 10 kills apiece. Senior Krystal Barkley (Flushing) posted five blocks. Junior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) had a team-leading 22 set assists. Sophomore Mallory Schug (Climax/Galesburg-Augusta) led the team with 24 digs.
Olivet will resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Friday night when it hosts Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. The match inside The Cutler Event Center will get under way at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Comets will make the short trip to Albion College for a noon match inside Kresge Gym.
