Volleyball rallies to beat Adrian in MIAA-opener
The Olivet College volleyball team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play tonight with a five-set come-from-behind victory over Adrian College at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. After losing the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-17, the Comets bounced back to win the third and fourth sets, 25-13 and 25-12, to force a match-deciding set. In the fifth set, Olivet scored the first six points and never looked back en route to a 15-8 win.

The Comets were led by freshman Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph). She had 13 kills and only three attack errors on 28 attempts for a .357 hitting percentage. Junior Ellen Schulz (Freeland) finished with eight kills and just one attack error on 21 tries for a .333 hitting percentage. As a team, Olivet hit .178.
Junior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) dished out 25 assists. She also served up seven of the Comets' 14 aces. Sophomore Mallory Schug (Climax/Galesburg-Augusta) posted 13 digs.
Olivet returns to action with two MIAA matches this weekend. On Friday, the Comets travel to play Alma College at 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday, they host defending league champion Hope College at noon.
