Baseball team opens season with 11-7 win against Emerson (Mass.)

Senior Brad Dragicevich (Kalamazoo/Central) pitched six shutout innings as the Olivet College baseball team opened its season with an 11-7 win against Emerson (Mass.) College today in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Comets (1-0) scored one run in the first inning, three runs in the third and fourth innings and closed their scoring with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Emerson tallied six runs in the seventh inning and added another run in the eighth.
At the plate, senior Chris Shelhart (Rolling Meadows, Ill./St. Viator) was three-for-four with two runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases. Sophomore Cody Goodell (Davison) collected three RBI. Senior Sean Howard (Charlotte/Potterville) and Scott Purdy (Traverse City/West) each had two hits. Purdy drove in two runs.
On the mound, Dragicevich gained the victory. He allowed three hits, struck out four batters and did not walk a batter. Sophomore Steven Oginsky (New Lothrop) pitched an inning in relief and earned the save.
Olivet returns to the field tomorrow when they play Emerson at 1 p.m., followed by a game against Wesley (Del.) College.
