The Olivet College men’s soccer team fell to non-conference foe Saginaw Valley State University, 6-2, this evening in University Center.

The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to non-conference foe Saginaw Valley State University, 6-2, this evening in University Center.
The Comets (0-5) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when senior Rudy Pulido (Holt) deposited the ball into the net off a deflection by the SVSU goalkeeper. The score remained 1-0 at halftime. The Cardinals (1-4-1) tallied two goals early in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. In the 66th minute, Olivet tied the game at 2-2 on a goal by freshman Mike Smith (Okemos). Sophomore Alan Holdorf (Novi) assisted on his goal.
SVSU scored what proved to be the winning goal during the 70th minute of play. The Cardinals' last three goals were in 77th, 78th and 83rd minute.
The Comets were limited to eight shots, including three by Smith, while SVSU tallied 24. Sophomore keeper Michael Manning (Charlotte) started and played 28 minutes, 33 seconds. He did not allow a goal and made seven saves. Freshman Ben Richardson (Traverse City/Central) finished the game in goal and made four saves.
Olivet is back in action Saturday, Sept. 17, when it hosts Manchester (Ind.) College in the second half of a soccer doubleheader. The women's soccer team is playing Kalamazoo College at noon.
