Ching scores game-winner as men’s soccer team beats Alma, 2-1

With 13 seconds left in the game, freshman Robert Ching (Elsie/Ovid-Elsie) scored the game-winning goal, and the Olivet College men's soccer team beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College, 2-1, today in Olivet. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Comets.
Olivet (4-7, 2-3 MIAA) got on the scoreboard first in the 31st minute when freshman Mike May (Mason) scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Junior Andrew Evans (Eastport/Petoskey) and sophomore Josh Van Wagner (Jackson/Lumen Christi) were each credited with an assist.
The Scots (2-7-2, 1-3-1 MIAA) tied the game on a Mark Daisy goal with two seconds left before halftime. The score remained tied at 1-1 until the closing seconds of the game. May drew a foul from just outside the box. Off the free kick, Ching buried the ball from three yards out to the open post.
For the game, the Comets had 17 shots, including nine on-goal. Van Wagner had five shots, while May took four. Ching along with freshman Colin Yake (Plainwell) finished with three shots a piece. In goal, sophomore Ethan Felsing (Mason) played the entire game, facing 10 shots and making two saves.
Olivet will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts Albion College. The game, which starts at 7 p.m., is being played at Eaton Rapids High School.
